Most moving damage comes down to poor packing. Here are some of the techniques our crew uses every day.
Furniture: blankets + shrink-wrap
- Pad the corners of sofas and cabinets with moving blankets, then secure everything with stretch wrap to prevent scratches and dust.
- Wrap drawers and cabinet doors shut so they cannot slide open.
- Remove bed frames and table legs when possible. Bag the hardware and tape it to the matching piece.
Mattresses: fully covered
Mattresses are bulky and get dirty easily. Use a mattress bag or wrap it completely, and keep it upright during transport so it does not bend.
Appliances: secure and cushion
- Use the original box for TVs if you have it; otherwise wrap the screen in bubble wrap and a blanket and transport it upright.
- Unplug, empty and defrost your fridge in advance and tape the doors shut.
- Secure the washer drum and drain any remaining water.
Fragile items: layer and fill
- Wrap plates and glasses individually — plates packed on their edge are less likely to break than flat.
- Fill the bottom of the box and any gaps with paper or bubble wrap so nothing shifts.
- Mark boxes “FRAGILE” and “THIS SIDE UP”.
Protect floors and stairs
